SEOUL, August 15, 2024 - Renowned Korean sculptor Jeon Yong Hwan has unveiled his latest exhibition, "Transforming Cycle," at Gallery Mill Studio in Seoul. Running from August 15th to August 28th, 2024, this exhibition offers a deep dive into the complex and mesmerizing world of biological structures, with a focus on the themes of circulation and transformation.
The core concept of Jeon's work is rooted in the idea of circulation—a continuous, unending loop of transformation. This concept is symbolized through the use of arrows and loops in his sculptures, representing the interconnectedness of beginnings and endings within a perpetual cycle. Jeon’s sculptures, which deliberately lack a definitive front or back, start or end, challenge the viewer to consider life as an ongoing process of change and evolution.

In "Transforming Cycle," Jeon explores the intricate beauty of protein structures, which serve as the foundation of all life forms. By employing aluminum, a material chosen for its lightness and versatility, Jeon skillfully melds the rigidity of metal with the fluidity of organic forms. His work is distinguished by a rhythmic flow of lines and the use of vibrant colors, which together create a dynamic and contemplative aesthetic experience.
Jeon’s artistic methodology, which he likens to architectural design, involves the meticulous cutting and welding of individual aluminum pieces. This process enables him to transform flat surfaces into captivating three-dimensional spaces where light, shadow, and color interact in a harmonious dance. The result is a visual representation of the continuous circulation that underpins all living systems, offering viewers a fresh perspective on the beauty inherent in the natural world’s complexity.

Jeon’s academic background is as impressive as his artistic achievements. A graduate of the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara in Italy, as well as Hongik University in Seoul, Jeon has held 24 solo exhibitions both in Korea and internationally, establishing himself as a leading figure in contemporary sculpture.
In this latest exhibition, Jeon invites viewers to engage with the fundamental cycles that govern life—whether they be the circulation of air, the changing seasons, or the intricate biological processes that sustain life. His work transcends mere artistic expression, serving as a profound meditation on the interconnectedness of all things and the subtle beauty embedded within the very fabric of existence.
"Transforming Cycle" is not just an exploration of scientific concepts but a reflection of Jeon's lifelong commitment to understanding and visualizing the forces that shape our world. Through his work, Jeon offers a unique opportunity for viewers to connect with abstract ideas on a tangible, emotional level, making this exhibition a must-see for anyone interested in the convergence of art, science, and philosophy.
