Piknic Seoul will host the Asian premiere of Soundwalk Collective & Patti Smith: CORRESPONDENCES, an immersive exhibition blending sound art and poetic visual narratives, from April 19 to July 20, 2025. This landmark collaboration between legendary punk icon Patti Smith and experimental audio-visual collective Soundwalk Collective arrives in Korea after critical acclaim in Tbilisi, Medellín, Athens, and New York.

The exhibition presents a multisensory body of work that explores the philosophical and emotional resonances of the term “correspondences”—referring to communication, harmony, and echoes between people, ideas, and time. Over several years, Smith and the collective have exchanged letters and sonic fragments, meditating on subjects such as memory, climate change, revolution, and the metaphysical qualities of sound.

The exhibition will feature immersive audio installations, eight video works, and extensive archival material, including projects making their debut in Korea. As part of their long-standing artistic mission, Soundwalk Collective transforms geographic, cultural, and historical contexts into abstract soundscapes through a mixture of field recordings, electronic music, and spatial design. Their collaborations span numerous disciplines, with past projects including works inspired by Jean-Luc Godard and Arthur Rimbaud.

Patti Smith, best known for pioneering the fusion of punk rock and poetry in the 1970s, has also established herself as a prolific author and cultural activist. Her celebrated albums such as Horses and memoirs like Just Kids and M Train have left a lasting impact across generations. Her ongoing commitment to environmental and human rights issues further cements her position as a global cultural figure.

Piknic has become renowned for curating interdisciplinary exhibitions that blur the lines between art, music, and space. With this exhibition, the venue continues its tradition of redefining contemporary experience through innovative storytelling and immersive design. The decision to launch the Asian leg of the exhibition at Piknic underscores the venue’s international relevance and curatorial vision.

Early-bird tickets are available at a 33% discount from March 27 through April 16 via Naver Booking, 29CM, and Kakao. Following its Seoul run, the exhibition will travel to the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo from April 26 to June 29, 2025.
