The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil will present special screenings of the acclaimed historical K-drama "The Red Sleeve" on September 26 and 27 as part of the global K-Drama Day 2025 celebration. The event, organized in partnership with streaming platform Viki, will take place on the first floor of the Korean Cultural Center and will feature both screening sessions and educational discussions about the series' historical context.
Following each screening of the drama's opening episodes, Professor Mariana Pacheco will lead a talk session exploring the series and its historical background rooted in Korea's Joseon dynasty. The interactive format aims to provide audiences with a comprehensive understanding of both the entertainment value and cultural significance of K-dramas, while immersing viewers in Korean history and storytelling traditions.
"The Red Sleeve" is set in the early 1700s and tells the story of Yi San, portrayed by Lee Junho, who must succeed his grandfather despite being a ruthless king responsible for his father's death. Unlike his predecessor, Yi San is determined to become a benevolent ruler, though he carries deep emotional scars from his father's tragic fate. The romantic storyline centers on his relationship with Sung Deok Im, played by Lee Se Young, a bright and free-spirited young woman who initially hesitates to become the prince's consort out of fear of losing her independence. As their feelings deepen, however, she begins to understand the meaning and potential rewards of their union.
K-Drama Day represents Rakuten Viki's third annual celebration of Korean entertainment's growing global popularity and dedicated fandom. Running from September 26 to September 30, the event brings fans closer to their favorite genre through an exciting lineup of awards, exclusive talent content, and special programming across multiple platforms and locations worldwide.
The talk session will be moderated by Mariana Seminati Pacheco, who holds a PhD in Communication from PUC-SP and specializes in researching Korean pop culture in Brazil. Dr. Pacheco has participated in numerous lectures and events focused on Hallyu, including "60 Years of Korea in Brazil – From Bom Retiro to Hallyu" in 2023 and "History of Korea and Hallyu" in 2025. She has authored several academic articles examining K-pop, K-dramas, and contemporary Korean culture.
The event schedule includes two separate viewing opportunities to accommodate different audiences. On Friday, September 26, at 7:00 PM, attendees can watch Episode 1 followed by a talk session at 8:15 PM. Saturday, September 27, offers a more extensive program beginning at 12:00 PM with screenings of Episodes 1 and 2, followed by a discussion session at 2:15 PM.
The screenings will take place at the Korean Cultural Center in Brazil, located at Av. Paulista, 460, Bela Vista, São Paulo. The event carries a 14+ age rating and offers free admission, though capacity is limited to 70 attendees per day. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the Korean Cultural Center reception desk one hour before each event begins. As an added incentive, all 70 attendees will receive a special Viki coupon, limited to one per person, at the conclusion of each session.
