Spanish artist Cinta Vidal is captivating audiences once again with her latest collection of perspective-defying paintings at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles. Her solo exhibition titled "Inward" showcases a mesmerizing new body of work that continues her signature exploration of what she calls "un-gravity constructions," where conventional notions of space and time appear to fold and warp before viewers' eyes.
Vidal's latest paintings feature her characteristic dizzying compositions in which people inhabit different areas of imagined apartments and homes that seem to exist in impossible architectural configurations. These surreal domestic scenes may represent different periods in time or perhaps parallel universes coexisting within the same visual space. The gallery explains that Vidal's depiction of macro and micro levels of inverted apartment buildings and city structures illustrates the various ways our world is experienced by masses of people living in urban environments.
Among the featured works are several striking pieces created in 2025, including "Den," an oil on wood painting measuring 31.5 by 31.5 inches, and "Flat," an acrylic on wood work of the same dimensions. Other notable pieces include "Side by Side" (23.6 x 23.6 inches), "Meet Up" and "Condominium" (both 31.5 x 31.5 inches), "Bond" and "Brerhen" (both 27.5 x 27.5 inches), "Sofascape 1" (35.4 x 35.4 inches), and "Attic" (31.5 x 31.5 inches). These works demonstrate Vidal's mastery of both oil and acrylic techniques on wood panels.
The artist herself provides insight into the deeper meaning behind her work, explaining that the word "inward" speaks to dual layers of interiority. "The shared indoor spaces we inhabit and the private, inward-facing state we enter when we disconnect from what surrounds us," she says. Vidal uses everyday objects to illustrate this concept, noting that "a sofa, for example, can be a place of togetherness or quiet retreat." Her scenes reflect what she describes as a "subtle coexistence: being together, yet each within their own space."
The "Inward" exhibition runs through November 29 at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, giving art enthusiasts ample time to experience these thought-provoking works in person. As a complement to the gallery show, Vidal has also created a new mural on the exterior wall of Sherman Gallery, a local frame shop located in Marina del Rey. This public art piece extends the exhibition's reach beyond the gallery walls and into the broader Los Angeles community.
Vidal's work continues to challenge viewers' perceptions of reality and domestic life, using her unique artistic vision to explore how we experience shared spaces while maintaining our individual inner worlds.
