Hélène Renaud has been creating extraordinary metal sculptures from discarded gas cylinders for the past decade, transforming what many would consider industrial waste into beautiful works of art. Based in Cavan, near Lannion in France, the talented artist specializes in crafting marine life sculptures that breathe new life into these metal containers.
"You have to be properly trained - I've already had explosions," Renaud explains, highlighting the inherent dangers involved in her unique artistic process. Working with gas cylinders requires extensive knowledge of safety protocols and proper handling techniques, as residual gas or pressure can create hazardous situations during the transformation process.
Renaud's artistic focus centers primarily on marine animals, with her sculptures capturing the fluid beauty of sea creatures in solid metal form. Her current masterpiece is an impressive seahorse sculpture adorned with a stunning gradient of colors, representing her largest work to date. The piece demonstrates her ability to combine technical metalworking skills with artistic vision to create pieces that are both visually striking and technically accomplished.
The artist will showcase her remarkable creations at the upcoming Bio and Creators Fair, scheduled to take place at the Skope venue in Lannion on November 22 and 23. This exhibition will provide visitors with an opportunity to see firsthand how discarded industrial materials can be transformed into captivating art pieces through creativity, skill, and careful attention to safety protocols.
