The city of St. Cloud is launching an exciting new initiative to brighten its downtown area by inviting local artists to contribute original artwork for a public art installation project. The St. Cloud Art Wraps program aims to transform utility boxes and other public spaces throughout the downtown district into a vibrant, city-wide gallery featuring works by regional artists.

This innovative program serves multiple purposes beyond simply beautifying the urban landscape. According to city officials, the art wraps will bring new life to public spaces, encourage more foot traffic and walkability in the downtown area, and help deter graffiti vandalism. The initiative represents a creative approach to urban revitalization through community-based art.

Artists residing in Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne Counties are eligible to participate in the program. Selected artists will receive $500 for the use of their artwork, which will be reproduced as vinyl wraps for installation on various public structures. Participants can submit up to five images in digital format for consideration by the selection committee.

The submission process is straightforward, with digital artwork being the preferred format for entries. This allows artists to showcase their work in a format that can be easily adapted for the vinyl wrap production process. The program offers an excellent opportunity for local artists to gain public exposure while contributing to their community's aesthetic improvement.

Interested artists should contact Jennifer Penzkover, the St. Cloud Arts Commission Coordinator, at 320.650.3148 or via email at jennifer.penzkover@ci.stcloud.mn.us for questions about the submission process or program requirements. The deadline for all submissions is Tuesday, November 25th, giving artists ample time to prepare and submit their best work for consideration in this community-enhancing initiative.
