Four architecture firms from Vorarlberg have been honored with Austria's State Prize for Architecture and special awards, marking a significant achievement for the western Austrian state. The winners include Julia Kick Architekten, NONA Architektinnen, Innauer Matt Architekten ZT, and juri troy architects, who were recognized at the 2025 State Prize for Architecture ceremony on Wednesday.
"With the State Prize for Architecture, we honor architectural solutions that demonstrate how companies and institutions give spatial expression to their future orientation," explained Secretary General Severin Gruber during the awards ceremony hosted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Tourism (BMWET).
The competition featured five categories, with each category receiving one nomination for the State Prize for Architecture 2025. Two of the five category winners went to Vorarlberg firms. Julia Kick Architekten won in the Industry and Commerce category for their "New Company Building Lustenauer Senf" project, commissioned by Lustenauer Senf Bösch GmbH. NONA Architektinnen GesbR took the Tourism and Leisure category prize for their work on "Hotel Hirschen Schwarzenberg - New Bathhouse Construction and Wälderhaus Renovation," commissioned by Pia and Peter Fetz.
In addition to the five state prizes, three special awards were given to projects that particularly excelled in specific aspects or pursued cross-category approaches. Vorarlberg firms claimed two of these three special prizes. Innauer-Matt Architekten ZT GmbH received recognition for the Bezau Museum project, commissioned by the Bezau Museum Association. Meanwhile, juri troy architects was honored for their "Windkraft Simonsfeld Corporate Headquarters Extension" project for Windkraft Simonsfeld AG.
The State Prize for Architecture is awarded every two years by the BMWET based on decisions made by an independent expert jury, recognizing outstanding architectural achievements. The Austrian Architecture Foundation serves as the organizer, with partnerships from the Austrian Economic Chamber (Federal Guild of Construction) and the Federal Chamber of Civil Engineers. Projects eligible for submission included architectural realizations across five categories: Industry and Commerce, Trade and Services, Research and Development, Infrastructure and Mobility, and Tourism and Leisure.
