Renowned artist Nadja Nafe, who lives and works in Düsseldorf and Krefeld, is presenting her latest exhibition titled "Shadows and Other Experiences" at the historic Hexenturm in Jülich. The exhibition, organized by the Jülich Art Association under the theme "Art as Lived Time," features an intriguing contrast between her delicate paper-cutting artworks and large-scale abstract paintings.
The most striking feature of the exhibition is Nafe's fragile paper cuts, meticulously crafted with a scalpel on architectural paper. These delicate works are displayed throughout the largest exhibition space in the historic building, hanging like tender curtains that transform the ancient stone walls. The intricate cuts create mesmerizing patterns of light and shadow that dance across the room as visitors move through the space.
Nafe, who studied under the renowned German artist Markus Lüpertz, surprised visitors at the opening reception with the dramatic juxtaposition of her artistic styles. The exhibition showcases not only her signature delicate paper cuts but also her large-format paintings that burst with dynamic colors and abstract forms. This contrast between the fragile, almost ethereal quality of her paper works and the bold, vibrant energy of her paintings created a captivating visual dialogue that amazed attendees.
The exhibition demonstrates Nafe's versatility as an artist, highlighting her ability to work across different mediums while maintaining a consistent artistic vision. The historic setting of the Hexenturm provides a perfect backdrop for her exploration of light and shadow, with the medieval architecture enhancing the mysterious and contemplative atmosphere of her work.
