The Korean Cultural Center in Brazil is presenting a comprehensive exhibition celebrating the ancient art of Seoye calligraphy, featuring works by accomplished Brazilian-based artists who gained recognition in Korea's most prestigious calligraphy competition. The exhibition, titled "The Art of Seoye Calligraphy in Brazil," runs from August 13 through August 31 at the center's location on Avenida Paulista in São Paulo.
Organized in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Traditional Korean Calligraphy and Painting, the exhibition is part of Korean Culture Month celebrations. The showcase highlights the beauty and complexity of Seoye, Korea's traditional calligraphy art form that masterfully combines aesthetic expression with precise technique in writing both Hangeul (Korean characters) and Hanja (Chinese characters) using traditional brush and ink methods.
The featured artworks represent contemporary interpretations of this millennia-old practice, created by Brazilian artists who were either awarded prizes or selected as finalists in Korea's 38th National Calligraphy and Arts Competition. This competition is widely regarded as one of South Korea's most prestigious cultural events, making the inclusion of Brazilian artists particularly significant for cultural exchange between the two nations.
Visitors can explore the exhibition Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with Sunday hours from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Korean Cultural Center is located at Avenida Paulista, 460, in the Bela Vista neighborhood of São Paulo. Admission to the exhibition is completely free, though entry is subject to the venue's capacity limitations.
The exhibition demonstrates the growing international appreciation for Korean traditional arts and the successful cross-cultural adaptation of ancient practices by contemporary artists living abroad.
