Two Belgian TikTokers successfully hung their own artwork on the wall of the famous Louvre Museum in Paris for several minutes, placing it near Leonardo da Vinci's world-renowned Mona Lisa. The unauthorized installation lasted approximately three minutes before museum staff discovered and removed the piece, according to a Louvre spokesperson who spoke with the German Press Agency.
While no damage occurred during the incident, the Louvre announced its intention to pursue legal action against the two men, who quickly left the museum after completing their stunt. The museum spokesperson confirmed that security measures prevented the TikTokers from hanging their artwork any closer to the Mona Lisa than they managed to achieve.
In a video posted just days ago, the Belgian content creators revealed the elaborate planning behind their museum prank. They explained how they disassembled a Lego picture frame before entering the museum and divided the individual pieces between themselves to avoid detection. After passing through the security checkpoint, the pair reassembled the Lego frame and used it to display their brought artwork, securing it to the wall with double-sided tape.
The Louvre spokesperson emphasized that none of the materials used in the stunt - including the Lego pieces, paper, or double-sided tape - were prohibited items within the museum. This detail highlights how the TikTokers exploited a gap in security protocols by using seemingly innocent, everyday materials to carry out their unauthorized art installation.
The Louvre holds the distinction of being the world's most visited museum, making it a prime target for attention-seeking stunts like this one. The incident comes just about a month after the museum made headlines for more serious security concerns, when thieves executed a spectacular heist that resulted in the theft of jewelry worth approximately 88 million euros. That major robbery had already sparked an intense debate about the museum's overall security measures and protocols for protecting its invaluable collection.
