A Swiss billionaire art collector is searching for a director to oversee his ambitious new museum project in Caen, France, which is being hailed as Normandy's most anticipated cultural development of the next five years. Jean Claude Gandur, a renowned international art collector, has selected the Norman city of Caen in the Calvados department as the location for his new museum that will house his globally recognized collection.
The museum project is expected to showcase approximately 5,000 pieces from Gandur's extensive art collection when it opens its doors to the public by 2030. This substantial collection has earned international recognition and represents one of the most significant private art collections in the world.
The museum building will be strategically positioned in one of Caen's most coveted locations, situated between two of the city's most important landmarks. The site lies between the Memorial de Caen, which serves as the flagship institution for historical memory in Normandy, and the Colline aux Oiseaux, a remarkable green space that provides a natural backdrop for the cultural district.
This prime location reflects the significance of the project and its intended role in enhancing Caen's cultural landscape. The positioning between these two established attractions is expected to create a cultural corridor that will attract both local residents and international visitors to the region over the coming decade.
