Yvon Guilloux, a beloved landscape painter from Lamballe, France, passed away on Sunday, November 9, at the age of 88. The artist, who had a particular fondness for painting trees, died during the autumn season when leaves fall from the branches he so often depicted in his works.
Guilloux proudly identified himself as a "landscape painter" throughout his artistic career and became well-known in his local community for his dedication to the visual arts. Beyond his personal artistic practice, he played a significant role in promoting arts in the region by organizing and presiding over 25 editions of the art exhibition "Regards sur les arts" (Views on the Arts).
The painter's commitment to his craft remained strong until his later years. In 2022, at the age of 85, Guilloux held a major retrospective exhibition at the collegiate church of Notre-Dame, showcasing 137 of his paintings. The comprehensive show demonstrated the breadth and evolution of his artistic work over the decades.
Guilloux's death marks the end of an era for the local arts community in Lamballe, where he was not only recognized as a talented artist but also as a cultural organizer who helped foster appreciation for the visual arts. His legacy lives on through his extensive body of landscape paintings and his contributions to the regional art scene through the numerous exhibitions he helped bring to life.
