The city of Aix-en-Provence is preparing for a major celebration of one of its most famous sons, Paul Cezanne, with a comprehensive series of events planned for 2025 that will bring the legendary artist's legacy back into the spotlight. The commemorative program extends far beyond traditional museum displays, offering visitors an unprecedented opportunity to explore the intimate spaces and landscapes that shaped Cezanne's artistic vision. At the heart of these celebrations is a remarkable photography exhibition featuring the work of acclaimed photographer Bernard Plossu, whose unique perspective captures the essence of Cezanne's personal world. The exhibition, titled 'Cezanne en ses murs - Photographies de Bernard Plossu' (Cezanne in His Walls - Photographs by Bernard Plossu), is currently on display at the Aix-en-Provence Tourist Office and will run through September 21, 2025. Plossu's photographic journey began in 2003 when he first followed in Cezanne's footsteps, returning again in 2006 to further explore the master's environment. During these visits, Plossu used his distinctive artistic approach to document the landscapes, the quality of light, and even the very walls that once inspired the master of Aix-en-Provence. His work represents what can be described as an intimate, almost meditative journey into Cezanne's universe, capturing elements that remain largely unchanged since the artist's time. The photographer produced two comprehensive series of black and white photographs focusing specifically on Cezanne's studio and the historic Jas de Bouffan country house. These images offer visitors a rare glimpse into the private spaces where Cezanne lived and worked, providing context for understanding his artistic development and creative process. The 2025 celebration will also feature a major pictorial exhibition at the prestigious Musée Granet, complementing Plossu's photographic work with traditional paintings and artworks. Additionally, visitors will have the chance to discover various locations significant to Cezanne's life and work throughout Aix-en-Provence, including the gradual reopening of the Jas de Bouffan country house, which has been undergoing restoration to allow public access to these historically important spaces. The Aix-en-Provence Tourist Office, located at 300 Avenue Giuseppe Verdi in the 13100 district of Aix-en-Provence, France, is serving as the venue for Plossu's exhibition. Those interested in learning more about the full scope of Cezanne-related events and exhibitions can visit the official tourism website at www.aixenprovencetourism.com or the dedicated celebration website at www.cezanne2025.com for comprehensive information about all planned activities and exhibitions throughout the year.
