A special exhibition of world-renowned artist Nam June Paik, who is called the father of video art, is being held at the Nam June Paik Art Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
In addition to numerous works during his lifetime, he left behind various results through writing, such as letters, sheet music, essays, plans, and reports. Among them, his writing written from 1968-1979 can be called “a policy book” that predicted the future.

His 90th anniversary special exhibition “THE CONSULTANT: PAIK’S PAPER 1968-1979” is a place where you can see the results of his report sublimated into a work.
In particular, this exhibition showcases the detailed stories of the reports he left behind, such as [EXPANDED EDUCATION FOR THE PAPERLESS SOCIETY, 1968], [MEDIA PLANNING FOR THE POST INDUSTRIAL AGE, 1974], [HOW TO KEEP EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO ON PBS NATIONAL PROGRAMMING, 1979].

Where From the entrance, the audience begins to be amazed by his work. This is because “Gulliver”, which is 4m tall, is lying down. Gulliver is a work in the form of a giant robot, made from old TVs and radios. This work was made in 2001, and there are 18 small robots standing on it. It's like the novel "Gulliver's Travels". Various stories about the present and the future that he threw can be seen in the several CRTs installed.
“Hacker Newbie” is also captivating the audience. The title of the work is a compound word of “hacker”, meaning people looking for a new path, and “newbie”, meaning new users. This work depicts the next generation traveling on the “electronic superhighway”.

Paik often featured rides such as wagons, kilns, bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles in his works. By utilizing existing means of transportation, he revealed the futuristic communication “electronic superhighway” in his works.
“Robot on Sedan Chair & Robot on Motorcycle”, which was made in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of Korea’s independence, is a work of his imagination. A robot riding a colorful neon motorcycle is in contrast to a robot riding a static flower sedan. Through this aesthetic contrast, he embodied the figurative images of the past and the future.

“Elephant Cart” is in the shape of an elephant on a cart that is connected to a TV, radio, and phonograph wires. “My Faust-Autobiography” is a work made by collecting a total of 13 CRTs. In each CRT, various topics such as art, education, agriculture, health, transportation, and communication are screened.
The works on display allow us to confirm the “path he should take as an artist” defined in his work. This special exhibition is an opportunity to read his thoughts and see how they have been sublimated into works' through a report written by Nam June Paik in the past.
This exhibition continues until March 26, 2023 at Nam Jun Paik Art Center.
