Mnet's highly anticipated survival program, "Queendom Puzzle," is set to captivate audiences once again as it makes its triumphant return for a third season. This time, a total of 26 members from both active and disbanded girl groups will compete against each other, vying for a coveted spot among the final seven.
During a press conference held in Seoul on Tuesday, the show's participants, along with Chief Producer Yoon Shin-hye and Producer Lee Yeon-gyu, shared their excitement for the upcoming season. Notably, Taeyeon, the host of the show, graced the event with her presence.
While the previous two seasons of "Queendom" featured head-to-head battles between girl groups, the third season introduces a revamped concept. This time, the focus will shift towards highlighting the individual talents and charms of each member. By creating brand-new teams for every mission, "Queendom Puzzle" aims to provide a platform for these talented individuals to showcase their abilities that may have been overshadowed within their respective groups.
Yoon explained the motivation behind the show's new approach, stating, "Although girl groups have been at the forefront of the industry, the individual members are often perceived solely within the predefined roles and concepts of their teams. With 'Queendom Puzzle,' we sought to create a stage where these members can reveal their hidden talents and charms as individuals."
The show's ultimate goal is to discover the best combination of contestants, a decision that will be left entirely to the viewers. Producer Lee emphasized that the final project girl group will be formed based on the viewers' votes. After each episode, viewers will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred "best combination," unveiling the contestants' hidden talents along the way.
Once a week, viewers will be able to cast their votes for the seven members they believe create the most powerful combination. Through this democratic process, the final lineup will be determined.
The selected contestants represent third- and fourth-generation girl groups, spanning debut years from 2012 to 2023. Among them, Dohwa (formerly known as Chanmi) from the now-defunct group AOA holds the distinction of being the earliest debutant in 2012. The youngest participants include Yoon Seo-yeon and Lee Ji-woo from triple S, a multinational group that made their debut just this February.
Additionally, notable participants include Rocket Punch's Juri, Suyun, and Yeonhee; Cherry Bullet's Bora, Jiwon, and Chaerin; woo!ah!'s Nana and Wooyeon; Weeekly's Lee Soo-jin, Jihan, Park So-eun, and Zoa; H1Key's Riina and Hwiseo; WJSN's Yeoreum; Purple Kiss' Yuki; and Lightsum's Sangah.
Several singers from inactive or disbanded groups have also joined the competition, including Lovelyz's Kei, Weki Meki's Elly, Momoland's JooE, NMB48's Miru, and BNK48's Faii.
However, it was announced that Lee Chae-yeon and Laboum's Haein, who were initially participating, withdrew midway through the shoot and will not be included in the final lineup. Nevertheless, the producers confirmed that the two members will still appear in the show's early episodes.
