Artists will descend upon the small commune of Concoret in Morbihan, France, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, for a painting competition designed to highlight the town's rich cultural heritage. Sarah Muller, deputy mayor responsible for culture and community events, will welcome painting enthusiasts to this biennial artistic celebration that has become a cornerstone event for the local community.

The competition, organized under the theme of showcasing Concoret's architectural and cultural patrimony, represents a vital opportunity to put the spotlight on the commune's historical treasures. Since 2015, the event "Couleurs de Bretagne" (Colors of Brittany) has made a stop in Concoret every two years to celebrate artistic talents while emphasizing the richness of the municipal heritage, according to Muller.

The competition welcomes artists of all skill levels and embraces creative diversity in both technique and medium. "Throughout the day, all artistic techniques are accepted as well as all supports, to capture impressions, landscapes, or buildings of the commune. The choice is free," Muller explained. "Even if certain subjects return regularly, they are represented with a different approach each time." This flexibility allows artists to interpret the town's character through their unique artistic vision, whether through traditional painting, sketching, or other visual mediums.

The day-long event will begin at 8 a.m. when the municipality officially welcomes both amateur and professional artists to begin their creative work throughout the commune. Participants will have until 3-4 p.m. to complete and submit their artwork, which will then be evaluated by a local jury composed of community members and art enthusiasts. The prize ceremony, recognizing winners across nine different categories, is scheduled for 6 p.m., providing a festive conclusion to the artistic celebration.

This year marks the 32nd edition of the broader regional competition, which will feature 56 communes being captured in paintings and drawings between April 26 and October 26, 2025. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the "petites cités de caractère" (small towns of character) designation, a special prize will be awarded to two outstanding works created in partner communes. For artists who receive recognition in their local competitions, a grand finale awaits at the Faouët Museum from October 19-26, 2025, with the final prize ceremony taking place on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
