More than 40 artistic sculptures spread across Scotland's northern regions, including Shetland, Orkney, and the Northeast, are set to be removed starting tomorrow in preparation for a special farewell celebration. The BookBench Trail, which has been operating in support of Clan Cancer Support, will conclude with a major event next month at Aberdeen's Music Hall.

The public art initiative features a remarkable collection of 41 large BookBench sculptures positioned along an extensive 500-mile route stretching from Stonehaven to Lerwick. This ambitious trail has provided art enthusiasts and supporters with months of outdoor cultural experiences while raising awareness and funds for cancer support services throughout the region.

The project's farewell weekend is scheduled for Saturday, September 20th, and Sunday, September 21st. Event organizers expect thousands of visitors to attend what will be the only opportunity for the public to view all sculptures together under one roof before they are sold at auction. The proceeds from the auction will generate valuable funding for Clan Cancer Support's ongoing charitable work.

Fiona Fernie, Clan's chief executive, expressed her gratitude for the project's success, stating: "As we come to the final days of The BookBench Trail, we'd like to thank our amazing sponsors for helping us to coordinate such a special project across our communities. We have been overwhelmed by the support of the public throughout the trail and look forward to welcoming guests to our Farewell Weekend in September for what we hope will be the perfect send-off for our BookBenches before they are given new homes at our auction."

The farewell event will offer visitors comprehensive access to an indoor exhibition featuring all 41 large BookBench sculptures alongside 38 miniature BookBench sculptures created by local schools. The weekend celebration will encourage attendees to dress as their favorite World Book Day characters, with organizers providing face painting services and various art activities for families and children.

Additionally, guests will have opportunities to purchase trail merchandise and pre-owned books during the event, with all proceeds directly supporting Clan's essential cancer support services. This final gathering represents both a celebration of the artistic achievement and a last chance for the community to contribute to the charitable cause before the sculptures find permanent homes with their new owners.
