TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) has expressed their condolences to the victims and families affected by the tragic Jeju Air crash at Muan Airport on December 29. In an official statement shared on December 30, the group extended their sympathies, stating, “We deeply mourn the loss of all who perished in this tragic incident and express our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.”

Despite the somber news, the group will proceed with their scheduled performance at Japan’s NHK music festival Kohaku Uta Gassen on December 31. The members acknowledged the weight of the situation, adding, “We are preparing for the stage with heavy hearts, deeply engraving our condolences into our performance.”

The accident occurred when a Jeju Air flight arriving from Bangkok collided with the outer wall of Muan Airport during landing, resulting in a devastating explosion. Among the 181 passengers, 179 lives were lost, making it one of South Korea’s deadliest aviation disasters in recent history. TXT learned of the tragedy after arriving in Japan on December 28.

As one of the most prominent K-pop groups of their generation, TXT’s statement reflects a balance between professional commitments and heartfelt acknowledgment of national grief. Their participation in Kohaku Uta Gassen, Japan’s largest year-end music festival, will undoubtedly resonate with both Korean and international fans, especially as the group carries the weight of the tragedy on a global stage.

TXT’s decision to proceed with their performance underscores the challenging balance between respecting national mourning and fulfilling international obligations. Their commitment to honoring the victims through their work reflects the growing maturity and responsibility of artists navigating the global stage.

The government has declared a national mourning period until January 4, 2024, and the entertainment industry has responded with numerous cancellations and postponements. While TXT will proceed with their performance, their public acknowledgment and expression of condolences highlight the group’s sensitivity and solidarity in a time of national sorrow.
