Cable channel Mnet is gearing up to air its latest K-pop survival show, "Queendom Puzzle," on June 13. The show will feature members from various K-pop girl groups and female artists competing against each other to form a new project group. Jang Ye-eun from CLC, Kei from Lovelyz, Riina and Hwiseo from H1-KEY, JooE from Momoland, and former IZ*ONE member Lee Chae-yeon are among the participants. Unlike traditional survival shows, the competitors will not compete as individuals, but as groups.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Mnet said, "We will discover the best combination of the singers, just like putting a puzzle together." "Queendom Puzzle" is a sequel to Mnet's "Queendom" series, which features competitions among K-pop girl groups and soloists. The first season aired in 2019 and starred groups such as MAMAMOO, Lovelyz, OH MY GIRL, and (G)I-DLE. The second season invited WJSN, Kep1er, and VIVIZ, among others. The latter hit the airwaves last year.
Taeyeon, a member of K-pop group Girl's Generation, hosted the second season of "Queendom" and will appear as an emcee for "Queendom Puzzle." She expressed her excitement about the new show, saying, "It is such an honor to be part of 'Queendom Puzzle.' I feel burdened, but I feel a sense of responsibility as well...I am already looking forward to seeing the legendary performances of female singers."
The K-pop industry has seen an increase in survival shows in recent years, as they provide a platform for aspiring artists to showcase their talents and potentially gain popularity. "Queendom Puzzle" is another example of this trend, and fans are eagerly anticipating the performances of the female artists as they compete to form a new project group.
As the popularity of K-pop continues to grow globally, Mnet's "Queendom" series and its new spinoff "Queendom Puzzle" offer a glimpse into the competitive world of K-pop and the talent that drives the industry forward.
