Reports from the US music industry confirm the commencement of the nominee selection process for the 66th Grammy Awards, with a notable presence of K-pop artists among the hopefuls.

Three-time Grammy nominee and K-pop sensation BTS is making a bid for Grammy recognition, with each of the seven members submitting individual entries, rather than as a group.

Jimin, a member of BTS, submitted entries in six categories, including "Like Crazy" for song of the year and rookie of the year, "Face" for best pop vocal album, and "Angel Pt. 1" for the film "Fast X" under best pop duo/group performance.

Jungkook, another BTS member, entered his Billboard Hot 100-topping single "Seven (feat. Latto)" in four categories: rookie of the year, song of the year, best pop duo/group performance, and best music video.

The group's rappers, RM and Suga, each submitted entries in three categories. RM vies for best pop vocal album with his solo LP "Indigo" and also entered for best pop duo/group performance and best music video with the main song "Wild Flower." Suga, under his solo alias Agust D, submitted for best rap album with "D-Day" and for best rap performance and best music video with "Haegeum."

V, another BTS member, presented his album "Layover" for consideration in the best pop vocal album category, along with his song "Slow Dancing" for best pop solo performance and best music video. Jin, yet another BTS member, submitted his song "On the Street" for best pop solo performance and best music video.

J-Hope's "On the Street," a composition by the BTS rapper-dancer in collaboration with American rapper J. Cole, was entered for best pop duo/group performance and best music video.

BTS's label-mate, Tomorrow X Together, also submitted entries for the 66th Grammy Awards. Their track "Back For More," featuring Brazilian singer Anitta, is up for consideration in the best pop duo/group performance category. Additionally, they submitted "Sugar Rush Ride" for best music video, and their recent Disney+ documentary for the best music film category.

Several other K-pop acts are vying for a best new artist nomination, including Stray Kids, aespa, Seventeen, and Fifty Fifty.

Stray Kids submitted their Billboard 200-topping LP "5-Star" for album of the year and best pop vocal album. Their song "S-Class" was submitted in four categories, including rookie of the year and song of the year.

Twice, a popular girl group, submitted their disco anthem "Set Me Free" for consideration in various categories, including the album of the year and best pop vocal album.

▲ Fifty Fifty (Attrakt)

Rookie group Fifty Fifty entered their hit song "Cupid" in four categories, including record of the year and song of the year, as well as their "Barbie Dreams" original soundtrack song for best pop duo/group performance.

K-pop artists NCT Dream and Jon Batiste, featuring K-pop girl group NewJeans, are also competing for a nomination in the best pop duo/group performance category.

The Grammy Awards, one of the most prestigious music events in the United States, has seen a growing number of K-pop artists aiming for nominations. In 2021, BTS earned their first Grammy nomination for the English-language pop song "Dynamite," marking a significant milestone for the genre.

According to music critic Jung Min-jae, while the number of K-pop entries for the Grammys is on the rise, commercial success remains a significant factor. Jung suggested that artistic merit, particularly the artists' contributions to song-making, plays a dominant role in Grammy nominations.

The first-round voting for the 66th Grammy Awards began on October 11 and will continue until October 14, US time. The final list of nominees will be announced on November 10, with the award ceremony scheduled for February 5, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
