In an exciting announcement, Riot Games has revealed that the anthem for the highly anticipated 2023 League of Legends World Championship, titled "Gods," will be performed by the popular K-pop girl group NewJeans. Set to release on October 4 at 2 p.m., this collaboration marks the first time Riot Games has partnered with a K-pop artist for the championship theme song.
Over the past decade, Riot Games, the game developer behind League of Legends, has collaborated with renowned musical artists like Imagine Dragons, Zedd, and Lil Nas X for the championship theme song. However, this year's anthem takes a groundbreaking turn by featuring the vibrant talents of NewJeans.
Sebastien Najand, the head music producer of Riot Games, and Mako, known for producing the original soundtracks of the animation series "Arcane," were instrumental in creating this year's anthem.
Expressing their excitement about this unique collaboration, NewJeans stated in a press release, “This was a new experience for us. We were happy getting to try out a new genre and sounds for this collaboration which carries both our group’s and LoL’s color.”
The music video for "Gods" will follow the compelling story of Korean professional League of Legends player Kim Hyuk-kyu, popularly known as Deft.
Adding to the excitement, the 2023 LoL World Championship commences on October 10 and notably, is being held in Seoul for the first time in five years. Fans and gaming enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting this thrilling convergence of music, gaming, and esports on a global stage.
